Broughton House & Garden - Kirkudbright, 45 min drive. An 18th century georgian house, former house of one of the Glasgow Boys. It is a living memory of Hornel's life and work. Behind the house is a magnificent garden influenced by Hornel's love of Japan. A delight to visit.
Drumlanrig Gardens - Thornhill, 40 min drive. Drumlanrig Castle Gardens date back to the 17th century. They extend over 70 acres and include rockeries, summer houses and an impressive collection of trees and shrubs. There is a restored victorian greenhouse and plant centre selling a variety of plants raised in the gardens.
Cally Palace Gardens - Gate House of Fleet, 50 mins. Cally gardens were built in 1765 - 1770 as a walled kitchen garden for the Cally House. The area is enclosed by brick walls and house the original gardeners cottage and lean to vinery. It is now a specialist nursery which provides the means to restore and maintain the remarkable garden which are now grade 11 listed.
