The area offers extensive outdoor pursuits: golfing, water skiing, sailing, fishing, hill walking, cycling, bird watching etc

Fishing

Trout (brown) fishing on the Loch included in the rental price – fly fishing only (4 fish limit per rod per day)

Not far from St Johns Town of Dalry is the river Ken and Loch Ken suitable for both coarse and game fishing. The river Ken is known locally for its game fishing of trout and salmon whilst Loch Ken is better known for its coarse fishing, particularly Pike.

Walking

The cottage is situated on the Southern Upland Way offering plenty of walking and cycling routes from the door. The Glenkens (which stretches from Carsphairn to New Galloway) is currently being hailed as the UK’s new walking destination with more than 100 walks from gentle strolls to full hikes (maps & route guides provided).

Cycling

Some of the best and most exciting mountain bike trails are right on our door step. The '7 stanes' mountain bike trails offer something for everyone no matter how experienced. For those looking to stay on the road, there are miles and miles of quiet country roads.

The nearest of the 7 stanes are Glentrool, Kirroughtree and Dalbeattie. Glentrool and Kirroughtree both have visitor centre offering plenty to do for all the family.

Water Sports

Swimming on the Loch on warmer days!!!
Any non powered water sports are permitted on the loch at own risk (equipment not supplied)
Galloway Sailing centre which is only 8 miles away in the direction of New Galloway, offers a range of activities from sailing, windsurfing, power boating, kayaking, canoeing, archery, quad biking, mountain biking and climbing.

Golf

New Galloway golf course (6 miles)is a delightful 9 hole course with fabulous views of Loch Ken and the surrounding Galloway Hills. There are courses at Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie and Southerness Championship course is not far away.
